Platform Scales

A platform scale is used for a wide variety of industrial applications. Producers of chemicals often use them for purposes of accurate formulation. There may be a wide variety of different ingredients required for any specific recipe. These are typically measured by weight. Therefore the accuracy of the scale is directly rated to the accuracy of the formulation. When there are a number of ingredients, there may be a primary material which accounts for the major part of the final product. Then there may be a number of secondary ingredients which are each only a small fraction of the total weight. So it is also important that the platform scale have a good specification for resolution. This allows those secondary ingredients to also be accurately weighed.

Another important requirement is the size of the platform. A very typical application is weighing 55 gallon drums. The diameter of the drum is approximately 24”. An ideal platform size would be about 20” x 27”. This allows the drum to be tilted onto the platform on the shorter side. It is also convenient for using drum handling equipment which can straddle the scale on the short side. The longer side provides for a very stable base for the drum.
