Many industrial processes require products and materials to be accurately weighed during manufacture. Large floor scales are ideal for this purpose. Platform sizes generally range from 3’ x 3’ up to 8’ x 10’, and sometimes even larger. Scale capacities can be from about 2500 lb up to 30,000 lb. Generally, the load will be placed on the platform with a forklift. But the scale can also be provided with a ramp, so that a palletjack can be rolled up onto the scale platform.
Depending on the manufacturing environment, floor scales can be fabricated from a variety of materials. The most standard type is made from welded steel. The scale can then be painted with an enamel or powder coat paint. Even better, an zinc rich epoxy coating will protect the scale from corrosion. When the scale will be subjected to corrosive chemicals, or a significant amount of water, stainless steel construction would be advised. Along with stainless steel load cells, this will provide longer productive life. In certain applications, it is useful to be able to easily move the scale. If it is manufactured from aluminum, it will be much lighter in weight. Aluminum provides an added benefit of being suitable for use in wet areas. Neither the aluminum nor the stainless steel scales require any coatings.
